Sit with the questions the Desert Fathers were asked.
Why does the mind wander in prayer? How can zeal be distinguished from pride? Across twenty-four Conferences, John Cassian and Germanus question the elders of Egypt about purity of heart, discernment, fasting, friendship, grace, and the passions. This substantial English volume preserves the conversational form of an early monastic classic in Edgar C. S. Gibson’s translation, giving difficult questions space for sustained answers.
