Meet the women behind the names of saints.
Holy Women Ascetics of the Eastern Church gathers lives that make Christian asceticism personal. Saint Philaret Gumilevsky introduces women whose paths passed through desert solitude, monastic responsibility, family life, loss, and costly decisions. Familiar names such as Mary of Egypt and Macrina appear alongside less familiar women, opening a wider view of the prayer, generosity, repentance, and endurance remembered in the Christian East.
